Charge Pressed against Former Rector of Yerevan State University for Squandering in Particularly Large Amount

In the result of investigatory and other procedural actions of great volume conducted in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee a number of circumstances of apparent abuses committed by the former Rector of Yerevan State University were found out.

Pursuant to data obtained through investigation, Aram Simonyan, holding the position of the Rector of “Yerevan State University” foundation, had competency to manage financial activity of the mentioned university and to sign agreements for up to 50 million AMD or other currency tantamount to it. For the purpose of swindling somebody else’s property in particularly large amount entrusted to him, reaching prior agreement with the director of the LLC providing security services in branches of Yerevan State University on a contractual basis, in the framework of the agreement signed on 3 July, 2015 without provision of any service up to December, 2019 he squandered money in particularly large amount - 34.362.581 AMD, in total, from funds of “Yerevan State University” foundation by transferring it to the bank account of the above-mentioned LLC director.   

On the base of the obtained sufficient evidence charge was pressed against the former Rector of Yerevan State University according to the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 179 (squandering or embezzlement) of RA Criminal Code. Signature not to leave was chosen as a pretrial measure against him.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
