The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia Artur Poghosyan received today the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia Khalil Shirgholam.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee congratulated the Ambassador on the appointment and wished success in carrying out his responsible mission.

During the meeting, Artur Poghosyan referred to the efficiency of information exchange and the execution of investigative requests within criminal proceedings on citizens of the two countries, which has become particularly evident in recent years thanks to the effective day-to-day cooperation between the Investigative Committee and the Embassy.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the constructive cooperation, emphasizing that preliminary investigation within various criminal proceedings (including those on counterfeit banknotes, prohibited medications, etc.) is being conducted within short timeframes.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee emphasized that proceedings involving foreign nationals are under his supervision and the supervision of the deputy overseeing the sector, and that, pursuant to his instruction, such cases are being investigated within the shortest possible timeframes.

During the meeting, reference was also made to the joint efforts carried out in combating transnational crime, particularly in the area of drug smuggling.
