Training Aimed at Closer Cooperation with U.S. Competent Bodies in Field of Mutual Legal Assistance; RA IC Deputy Chairman Took Part in Opening Ceremony

Arsen Ayvazyan, Deputy Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee participated today in the opening ceremony of the training course regarding mutual legal assistance queries held by the initiative of the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Office of International Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of the Legal Adviser of the U.S. State Department.

The training is aimed at improving the skills of employees of the RA Investigative Committee, the RA Prosecution Office and the RA Anti-Corruption Committee in the field of applying to the U.S. competent bodies with mutual legal assistance queries, providing useful information and experience regarding the requirements for such queries, the procedures for submitting them and their resolution.

Alexis Haftvani, INL Office Director of the U.S. Embassy to the RA, as well as the representatives of the RA Prosecution Office, the RA Anti-Corruption Committee also took part in the opening ceremony.

Arsen Ayvazyan, Deputy Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee attached importance in his speech to holding such trainings from the point of view of making cooperation closer between the RA and U.S. law enforcement bodies within criminal proceedings, enhancing the efficiency of implementation of mutual legal assistance queries. Arsen Ayvazyan noted that the necessity of capacity development in this matter proceeds from the needs of the RA competent bodies, and the practical application of the received knowledge will contribute to effectiveness and speed of preliminary investigation within transnational crimes, particularly money laundering, illegal turnover of narcotic drugs, illegal migration. He expressed hope that such initiatives will be ongoing, reaffirming the RA Investigative Committee’s willingness to be involved in them.

Anush Gasparyan, Head of the Division of Provision of International Queries of the RA Investigative Committee, as well as 16 persons holding autonomous position in the RA IC various structural subdivisions take part in two-day course.
