Decision made to temporarily stop officiating of senior obstetrician-gynecologist of “Vanadzor Medical Center” CJSC

In the framework of the criminal case investigated in Lori Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee on death of 32 year-old woman who had just given birth a decision was made to temporarily stop the officiating of the accused within the criminal case, senior obstetrician-gynecologist of “Vanadzor Medical Center” CJSC.

On October 18, 2016 a call was received from “Vanadzor Medical Center” CJSC informing that 32 year-old resident of Lori region died in the maternity ward. A criminal case was initiated in Lori Regional Investigative Department and investigatory actions of great volume were conducted to provide the comprehensive, objective and complete investigation of circumstances of woman’s death. As a result, it was found that the 32 year-old woman with a diagnosis of firstling was received in Vanadzor’s medical center on September 26, 2016. Being under doctors’ control 21 days later – on October 17, 2016 at 18:40 the woman gave birth to a baby boy after which her health deteriorated. Next day – on October 18 at 01:40 she died in the same ward.

Pursuant to the result of forensic medical examination maternity laceration, exterior acute bleeding, acute bleeding of internal organs and vessels were diagnosed which caused her death. Through preliminary investigation sufficient data were obtained on the allegation that not diligent treatment was displayed by obstetrician-gynecologists towards the implementation of their professional duties, necessary medical measures were not taken which caused sustainable development of bleeding complications during postnatal period and the woman’s death.

On the base of the obtained evidence charge was pressed against senior obstetrician-gynecologist of the medical center according to the Part 2 of the Article 130 of RA Criminal Code. Signature not to leave was chosen as a pretrial measure against him.

Taking the specifity of the criminal case into consideration on November 21 the investigator made a decision to temporarily stop the officiating of senior obstetrician-gynecologist of obstetrics and gynecology department of “Vanadzor Medical Center” CJSC. In the order defined by law, the decision was sent to the prosecutor supervising the legality of preliminary investigation.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
