Criminal Proceeding Initiated on Serviceman’s Death as a Result of Rival’s Sniper Shot
On December 4, 2023 a report was received from the Military Police of the RA Ministry of Defense informing that on the same day at about 14:35, while carrying out engineering work in the combat position of the unit N of the RA Ministry of Defense, serviceman Gerasim Arakelyan received penetrating bullet wound as a result of the sniper shot fired by the rival.
On the same day, on the way to medical center the serviceman died of the firearm injury he had received.
Considering that there are apparent features of illegal deprivation of life of the serviceman of the RA armed forces committed by a serviceman of the armed forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan out of hatred, intolerance or enmity conditioned with racial, national, ethnic origin, with regard to the case a criminal proceeding was initiated in the Eighth Garrison Investigative Unit of General Military Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee according to the Points 1 and 15 of the Part 2 of the Article 155 of RA Criminal Code.
Forensic medical expertise was commissioned.
Preliminary investigation is conducted.
Urgent evidentiary and procedural actions are conducted to find out all circumstances of the case.
