Preliminary Investigation of Criminal Proceeding Initiated in 2024 on Causing Death by Negligence to Serviceman by Medical Worker Completed
Preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding initiated on causing death by negligence to a serviceman, as a result of the improper performance of professional duties by a resident doctor of the Yerevan Garrison Hospital, was completed in General Military Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.
In the course of the preliminary investigation apparent factual data were obtained on the allegation that from July 19 to August 6, 2024 the resident doctor of the Yerevan Garrison Hospital did not perform a full and adequate assessment of the patient’s existing pathology, as a result of which it was not possible to prevent the development of complications.
Particularly, the undetected renal system impairments, the worsening of long-standing pulmonary pathology, and ineffective treatments led to the delayed diagnosis of Wegener’s syndrome in the serviceman.
Subsequently, the patient was transferred to another multi-specialty hospital, where, already in the terminal stage of the disease, the pathological process of ‘Wegener’s granulomatosis’ was confirmed, which ultimately led to the serviceman’s death.
Public criminal prosecution was initiated against the resident doctor of the Yerevan Garrison Hospital according to the Part 2 of the Article 187 of RA Criminal Code.
The criminal proceeding with the bill of indictment was sent to the prosecutor for approval and referral to court.
