Chair Head of Vanadzor State University after H. Tumanyan Arrested on Suspicion of Taking Bribe

The criminal case initiated in the Investigative Department of the RA National Security Service on taking commercial bribe and bribe for positive results for current exams, tests, course and university final work of a number of students committed by a chair head of one of the faculties of Vanadzor State University after H. Tumanyan was received in the proceeding of Lori Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

It was found out that the chair head, being in charge of exam periods and results of summery and final exams, through a resident of Vanadzor reached agreement on providing positive marks for course work, exams, tests of some students for a certain amount.

Through investigation data were obtained on the allegation that the chair head periodically received money in several amounts as bribe taken from students by the mediator. A part of the money he gave to the latter and positive marks were given to course work, exams, tests.

On May 5, 2020 the chair head was arrested on suspicion of committing crimes envisaged by the Part 3 of the Article 200 (commercial bribe), the Point 3 of the Part 3 of the Article 311 (taking bribe) and the Part 1 of the Article 311 of RA Criminal Code and gave self-incriminating testimony.

Charges were pressed against 8 students according to the Part 1 of the Article 200 (commercial bribe) and the Part 1 of the Article 312 (giving bribe) of RA Criminal Code, and against the mediator – according to the Part 1 of the Article 38-200 (supporting to taking commercial bribe) and the Part 1 of the Article 313 (bribery mediation). Signature not to leave was chosen as a pretrial measure against them.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
